Hout Bay Beaches & Surfing, Cape Town, South Africa
The cliffs of Chapman’s Peak and the charm of Hout Bay Harbour are divided by the white powdery sands of Hout Bay Beach.
Stretching for almost a kilometre along the Atlantic Ocean, salty Cape waters meet a sandy Cape stretch of beach ranging in width from 200m to 400m on the mountain side. A natural small river divide almost in the middle of the beach requires a hop, skip and a jump to cross. The Disa River gathers itself on Table Mountain and streams down its rocky back through the Hout Bay wetlands to this beach estuary.
Wading in waves and walking are popular resident activities; crunch sand between your toes or build a sandcastle and moat with the family. Dogs and children play in the surf and easy nearby stable access means horses and riders can also enjoy the beautiful scenery. The bay waters are calm, swimming is allowed and water sports are encouraged. Occasional windy days keep kite-surfers and sailors happy.
