Pendjari National Park, UNECO, Tanguiéta, Benin
Stretching over an area of 2755 square kilometres is the Pendjari National Park in north-west of the Republic of Benin. The national park got its name from the Pendjari River. Pendjari National Park was listed as a tentative site for UNESCO’s World Heritage Site in 2009.
The park houses a wide variety of plant species and mammals. Some of the biggest games found in the park are elephants, hippopotamuses, Sudanese buffaloes and West African lions. Pendjari National Park is a must visit for bird lovers.
Some of the notable birds recorded to have been seen in the park are the booted eagle, African openbill stork, African fish eagle, pied-winged swallow and white crowned robin-chat. The variety of bird species you will find in the park keeps growing as more species are introduced.
