Berges du lac de Kossou, Ivory Coast
The dam Kossou, located about thirty kilometers north-west of Yamoussoukro, is reached by a paved road winding through a hilly terrain, alternately eaten by bushes that grow in the sun, lined with papaya plantations, majestic cheeses, and a little further at Toumbokro, by vast fields of cocoa and coffee.
Toumbokro concentrates a large part of the agricultural activity of the region and, besides the plantations, also counts a factory of shelling of the cotton as well as some sawmills and artisanal units of treatment of the rice. Its plantations form an orchard of 1,500 hectares of cocoa trees and 527 hectares of coffee trees. Originally, they belonged to a settler and were bought by Houphouët-Boigny himself. He took charge of to boost production and expand the planted park, which he later offered to the State, in 1977.
