Somone Lagoon Reserve, Senegal, Dakar
Home to many different types of birds, Lagune de la Somone is a nature reserve on the banks of the Somone River. Spanning 7,000 hectares, this protected area attracts various species of migrating birds, including pink flamingos, pelicans, herons, sea gulls, and egrets.
A sandy stretch between the river and the baobab forest serves as a pleasant beach and a departure point for boat tours. You can watch fishermen bring their daily catch or visit one of the surrounding villages, as well as head to a nearby oyster farm to see how the locals live and work on a daily basis.
