Frost Covered Trees of Zao, Yamagata, Japan
Ride in a comfortable snowmobile on a ropeway, to see Frost Covered Trees of Zao above 1,400 m. This rare landscape of frost-covered white fir trees forms a legion marching across snowy hills, often against the blazing sun. A truly remarkable spectacle, this layer of snowflake crystals will be a highlight of your winter visit. You can ski through them or rent snowshoes to get a close-up view. A cable car available from Zao Onsen will take you at the highest point of 1,661 m (5,449 ft). Be sure you bring your camera and very warm clothes.
