Marine Museum, Ash Sharqiyah South Governorate, Oman
A maritime museum is a museum specializing in the display of objects relating to ships and travel on large bodies of water. A subcategory of maritime museums are naval museums, which focus on navies and the military use of the sea.
Oman led in the excellence of its boats and the maritime skills of its sailors who sailed far afield in the Indian Ocean. Sur was once a bustling port and many of the dhows were constructed in its shipyard.
The Sur Maritime Museum attempts to give an insight into the different dhows that were in use. It is an open air museum with views of the sea and the ever present Al Hajar mountains.
