Al Khayran the coastal area is called Bandar Al Khayran is a small scenic hamlet located 30 kilometers from Muscat, doted by narrow pocket beaches hidden in between steep, massive barren hillocks.
The areas in an around Al Khayran in one of the eight geoheritage reserve areas. Al Khayran area has three geoheritage sites . The details can be seen on the brownish boards which one can easily locate on the roadside when you drive past. The first one – The Mangroves are seen immediately on the left side of the road when you enter the Al Khayrain road from the main Al Sifa road. One kilometer further on the left is the Inter-tidal Ecosystem. The road leads to the massive hillock, and ends at the top view point. Visible from the top are few small beaches which are accessible only by boat or a trek down the steep rugged gorges. These beaches are shallow and do not have high waves. Crystal clear water, lot of marine life, sea water eroded cliffs and serenity – That is what one can experience here.
