Old Watch Tower, Muscat, Muscat Governorate, Oman
Shaped like an incense burner, this Portuguese restored edifice is located right next to Riyam and Kalbuh Park. People who visit the watch tower also make it a point to take around of these two nature parks that make it a complete day out for people who want to indulge in some recreational activities. Best enjoyed when the monument is visited during the cooler time of the day; people mostly venture out the fort to catch the pleasant evening breeze and the charming sunsets as the sun retreats through the rugged mountainous landscape.
Free bike rides are pretty popular with tourists here that are conducted every evening. Or else one could trek up to the top of the fort to enjoy the grand sweep of the waterfront of Muttrah or simply sit down and take in the glorious view of the blue clam waters of the Gulf of Oman that engulfs Muscat. Do not miss the colorful fountains at night that illuminates the area making it even more surreal.
