Kasbah des Caids, Tamnougalt, Drâa-Tafilalet, Morocco
Kasbah des Caidswas built in the 16th century, in the small village of Tamnougalt in the oasis valley Draa. In its day, Tamnougalt was strategically positioned on the Spice Route to Marrakech, making it a vibrant trading centre.
Built with stone, mud brick and rammed earth, the village rises up overlooking the date palm gardens below. Palms gardens flourish along the Draa valley that stretches for 150 kms, to the very edge of the desert.
In recent times, the Tamnougalt has become a popular destination for tourists travelling to the Sahara Desert.
With international movie studios nearby in Ouarzazate, Kasbah des Caids and Tamnougalt have become a favoured site for movie locations.
Now a museum, Kasbah des Caids offers informative guided tours through the Kasbah, village and palm gardens during the day. In the evenings, join in with local music events.
