Whakapapa day trip, half day or full day adventure in Whakapapa Village exploring ancient lava fields, cascading waterfalls and seeing unique alpine flora. Whakapapa Village is the main entrance into the Dual Heritage Tongariro National Park. Many beautiful short and longer walking tracks begin here. The central location of the village within the national park gives spectacular views of all the volcanoes.
Our visitors centre is on the Bruce road where it covers the history of our Tongariro park, the legends behind the active volcanoes and a 3D outlook of the hikes in the area. The Grands Chateau is a great Whakapapa day trip to have a coffee and step back in time. Inside are movies, High Tea or a lunch menu. Visitors are welcomed inside for a wee look of what yesterday was.
Snow play is just up the road with 2 chairlift rides to 2020m. At the bottom and the top of the chairlift are award winning cafes with spectacular views towards the Dual Heritage Tongariro National Park. There are more scenic hikes which cover all ages and fitness levels, mountaineering over old lava and volcanic rock.
