Qishan Old Street, Qishan District, Kaohsiung City, Taiwán

Qishan is at the center location of Kaohsiung City. This district was formerly known as the Sweet Potato Liao and it was later named after the mountain near here, Qiwayshan. Due to the hot and humid weather, this area is famous for sugar canes, bananas, and rice plantations. The operating sugar factory today is the proof of the once successful business in this area. As for bananas, you can find literally eight kinds of bananas being sold on Qishan Old Street. There are also some creative foods like banana ice and cakes here. Qishan Old Street is definitely the place to visit when you come to Qishan.

The old street truly preserves the atmosphere of the old times. You can see red brick buildings with baroque style. At some corners, the street still retains the architecture and features of the Japanese governing era. The train station is the best example. You can also find the advertisement in 70’s on several old shops here. After decades of changes and urban renewals, Qishan Old Street still has the charm and style to appeal tourists to visit, capturing the scent of the old days.
