Rubjerg Knude lighthouse, Løkken, Northern Denmark Region, Denmark

The lighthouse was built in 1899, but due to huge sand dunes over the years, you had to shut the lighthouse in 1968 when you could no longer see the light from the water. The old staff buildings have been designed as a sandflight museum, but have also had to be abandoned due to the fact that the sand began to destroy the buildings. South of the lighthouse is Rubjerg Plantage. The Sandflug Exhibition has now moved to Strandfogedgården in Rubjerg, which is part of Vendsyssel Historical Museum.

The lighthouse of the lighthouse was built by the French company Barbier & Bénard and cost approx. 42,000 kr. (The entire lighthouse cost about 176,000 kr when it was finished).  The lens consisted of 3 subjects, which means 3-sided with 134 hand-held prisms. The lining subjects were mounted on a bed of mercury. The lens was initially driven by a clockwork that had to be pulled up approx. every 3 hours.

The range of light was about 42 km. The lens ran twice a minute. For each turn, a single and a double flash were sent. The duration of the individual blink was one fifth second. The light bulb was 550 watt. When the lighthouse was taken out of use, the lens was thrown out and buried somewhere in the sand.
