Rita is the kind of bar that makes Milan feel alive. From the moment you step in, you’re drawn into a world where classic American bar style meets Milanese flair, and every drink feels like a carefully choreographed moment. The atmosphere is warm and vibrant, with a sense of tradition and modernity coexisting effortlessly. It’s the kind of place where you come for a cocktail, but stay for the experience—where the service is confident, the energy is buzzing, and the craft is unmistakable. On December 12, 2002, in a side street off the Naviglio Grande in Milan, Rita was born from the vision of Edoardo Nono and Gianluca Chiaruttini. At a time when the aperitivo culture was beginning to take hold in the city, Rita immediately became a standout destination, a classic American bar where quality and hospitality were the defining features from day one.
Even though it was not common practice twenty years ago, Rita chose early on to work with fresh, seasonal ingredients and to create homemade elements wherever possible. There are no artificial syrups or freeze-dried products—only freshly squeezed juices, daily-pressed extracts, and fresh fruit and vegetables used as garnishes, all paired with the essential companion: the shaker. Over the years, the research and development of homemade ingredients has grown deeper, and today the menu includes many creations that use every part of a fruit or vegetable. From syrups to cordials, garnishes to extracts, even the kitchen contributes to a virtuous cycle of careful ingredient use and preparation.
This philosophy is embraced by the whole team, keeping the soul of Rita’s mixology focused on one thing: freshness. Acids are used minimally, and fresh citrus is preferred for every drink, which is crafted in the moment, shaken, and served immediately. For nearly two decades, Rita has earned recognition and praise for its exceptional standards of service and product quality. Edoardo Nono, a true master of hospitality, continues to train his team daily, building a culture of warmth, professionalism, and expertise. The goal is always the same: to offer guests an experience that is fully dedicated to their desires and expectations.
