Alpine adventure and breathtaking panoramas await atop the Flüela Schwarzhorn.
Flüela Schwarzhorn is a striking peak in the Albula Alps of eastern Switzerland, rising to approximately 3,146 m above sea level. Its dark, horn‑like summit is a defining feature in the Davos region, making it a popular challenge for hikers seeking high‑alpine experiences and panoramic mountain views during the summer months.
The most common route begins near the Flüelapass and ascends steadily through alpine terrain, covering about 8 km round‑trip with an elevation gain of roughly 820 m. While physically demanding, the trail does not require technical climbing equipment in fair weather. Many hikers start early to reach the summit for sunrise, enjoying spectacular light over the surrounding valleys and peaks. Along the trail, hikers pass rocky slopes, alpine meadows, and wide-open vistas into the Flüela and Dischma valleys. The summit rewards climbers with sweeping views that, on clear days, can extend to distant peaks like Mont Blanc and the Grossglockner.
The peak is best attempted from midsummer to early autumn when snow has melted from the high trails. Hikers should wear sturdy footwear, carry appropriate clothing, water, and navigation aids, and be prepared for sudden changes in alpine weather. Flüela Schwarzhorn offers an unforgettable combination of challenge, scenery, and pure alpine atmosphere, making it a standout hike in the Davos Klosters region.
