King Charles III’s Christmas Day Broadcast
“A few weeks ago, the Queen and I were delighted to make a state visit to the Vatican where we prayed with Pope Leo in a historic moment of spiritual unity.
Pilgrimage is a word less used today, but it has particular significance for our modern world, and especially at Christmas. It is about journeying forward, into the future, while also journeying back to remember the past and learn from its lessons.
The end of the Second World War is now remembered by fewer and fewer of us, as the years pass. But the courage and sacrifice of our servicemen and women, and the way communities came together in the face of such great challenge, carry a timeless message for us all.
Journeying is a constant theme of the Christmas story. The wise men and the shepherds travelled through the night to find their Saviour, showing how we can find strength in the companionship and kindness of others.
In our own time of uncertainty and division, let us never lose sight of those enduring values of courage, reconciliation and unity that light the path ahead.
So, with these words and my whole heart, I wish you all a most peaceful and very happy Christmas.”
Merry Christmas! 🎄
In a deeply moving, warm, and sincere Christmas message, King Charles III invited us all to reflect on the beauty of pilgrimage—the journey we share as human beings, across faiths, cultures, and generations.
King Charles began with a personal note of joy, recalling the historic moment when he and Queen Camilla prayed alongside Pope Leo XIV in the Vatican, a powerful symbol of unity between different Christian traditions and a reminder that diversity of belief can strengthen, rather than divide, our common humanity.
Drawing on the timeless Christmas story, the King spoke of the shepherds and wise men—ordinary people from different walks of life—who travelled through darkness guided only by hope and drawn together by courage. Their shared journey to the manger shows us that true light is found not in isolation, but in coming together with open hearts.
With quiet reverence, he honoured the fading generation who lived through the Second World War, praising their extraordinary courage and the way communities of every background united in the face of adversity. Their legacy, he said, remains a beacon of hope, teaching us that even in the most uncertain times, reconciliation and solidarity can prevail.
In a world that can sometimes feel fractured, King Charles gently urged us to embrace the enduring values of courage, compassion, and unity—values that transcend borders and beliefs. His words carried a profound sense of hope: that by walking together with kindness and mutual respect, we can build a brighter, more inclusive future.
Delivered with warmth and sincerity, this was a message that lifted the spirit, reminding us that diversity is our strength, courage lights the way, and hope—especially at Christmas—binds us all as one human family.
