Prainha do Telégrafo

Prainha do Telégrafo is a serene riverside retreat located in the Telégrafo neighborhood of Belém, Pará. This tranquil spot has become a cherished gathering place for the local community, offering a peaceful escape along the Baía do Guajará. While not an official beach, it has earned the affectionate nickname “Prainha” due to its sandy shores and calm waters.

The area is primarily a shared space for approximately 200 families residing in the Beira Mar community. Residents often utilize the space for leisure activities such as family gatherings, barbecues, and community events. Local leaders, like Diel do Carmo Santos, emphasize the importance of maintaining the area’s cleanliness and fostering a sense of unity among neighbors. Efforts are underway to establish a community center to further enhance the space’s role as a hub for social and recreational activities.

Despite its popularity, the “Prainha do Telégrafo” is situated on land owned by the Brazilian Navy, and its use for recreational purposes is not officially sanctioned. The Secretaria Municipal de Meio Ambiente (SEMM) has conducted inspections and advised against bathing in the area due to environmental and safety concerns. Nevertheless, the community continues to cherish the spot, balancing their enjoyment with a commitment to preserving its natural beauty and fostering a spirit of cooperation.
