Discover Ver-o-Rio, a charming waterfront public square in Belém, often described as “a window on the river.” Spanning about 5,000 m² along the Baía do Guajará in the Umarizal neighborhood, this beloved space was opened in 1999 as part of the “Projeto Ver-o-Rio, Janelas Abertas para as Águas.” Its design promotes contemplative tourism by reconnecting people with the riverbanks of Belém in a welcoming and accessible way.
Ver-o-Rio is a lively cultural hub where urban leisure meets Amazonian ambiance. Visitors can savor traditional Pará delicacies at snack stalls and bars, enjoy live music performances on the outdoor stage, or watch the kids play in the playground. The area also features a Portuguese stone promenade, a tide gauge (“marégrafo”), and a poignant indigenous memorial—all set against the sweeping views of the river and nearby Combú Island.
Following a thorough renovation completed in 2022, Ver-o-Rio shines with improved amenities—restored walkways, refreshed lighting, a new sand court, a playground, fitness equipment, and vibrant landscaping—all wrapped in a refreshed visual identity. The transformation reinvigorated its role as a peaceful gathering spot, a generator of community income, and a heartfelt “urban window” onto the river that beautifully reflects the soul of Belém’s riverside life.
