Palácio Guanabara

As the official seat of the state government of Rio de Janeiro, the Guanabara Palace holds the highest status among current government buildings in the city. The palace has a rich history, having been built in the 19th century as a residence for Princess Isabel, the daughter of Emperor Pedro II. It has since served various government functions and is a prominent symbol of state power in Rio. Its blend of neoclassical and eclectic styles makes it a stately and important landmark.
