
Basel Historical Museum – Barfüsserkirche: Immerse yourself in Basel’s rich medieval and Renaissance heritage. Housed in the 13th-century Barfüsserkirche, the Basel Historical Museum offers a deep dive into the city’s history. The museum showcases a vast collection of artifacts, including the Basel Cathedral Treasury, medieval tapestries, and the renowned Basel Dance of Death. Visitors can explore the “Great Cabinet of Curiosities,” which houses Renaissance and Baroque collections, as well as Basel’s rich archaeological heritage. The museum also features a coin cabinet and exhibits on Burgundian Booty, providing insights into the region’s cultural and historical evolution.
The museum is open Tuesday through Sunday from 10:00 to 17:00 and is closed on Mondays. Admission is free for children under 13 years of age, members of the Association for the Basel Historical Museum, members of ICOM/VMS, holders of the Museums-PASS-Musées, the Swiss Museum Pass, or Colourkey, students of the University of Basel and the FHNW, and refugees and asylum seekers with a B permit with refugee status F, N, or S. Teachers for lesson preparation and students for project work also receive free admission.
