Hornfelsen

Hornfelsen is a striking limestone rock formation located in Grenzach-Wyhlen, Germany, just a short distance from Basel, Switzerland. Rising to about 352 meters above sea level, it offers visitors breathtaking panoramic views over Basel, the Jura mountains, and the surrounding landscapes. This natural vantage point is part of the Grenzacher Buchswald nature reserve, home to diverse flora and fauna including rare orchids and birds such as ravens. The site also features remnants of a medieval fortification, inviting exploration and reflection on the area’s rich history.

Visitors can enjoy hiking trails that lead to the summit, picnic and barbecue areas, and peaceful spots to relax amid nature. The terrain is natural and somewhat rugged, so sturdy footwear is recommended. While there is no wheelchair access due to the landscape, the location remains a beloved destination for outdoor enthusiasts and those seeking a tranquil escape close to the city.
