The Castle in Roundhay Park is an elegant early-19th-century folly, built around 1811–1821 as a scenic belvedere and summerhouse by local builder George Nettleton for Thomas Nicholson. Designed to resemble a medieval gatehouse with twin turrets and battlements, it originally featured a wooden roof and an upper room used for sewing, meals, and social gatherings. Although it fell into ruin by the mid-20th century, the structure was restored later and now stands as a charming heritage feature Grade II listed for its historical and architectural value.
Situated in the 700-acre Roundhay Park, three miles northeast of Leeds city centre, the folly occupies a picturesque position on Castle Field, overlooking Waterloo Lake.
