The Colonel’s Review of Trooping the Colour 2025
The Colonel’s Review of Trooping the Colour in 2025, held on Saturday, 7 June, provided a magnificent spectacle at Horse Guards Parade. As the second formal rehearsal for the King’s Birthday Parade, it mirrored the grandeur of the main event, with Lieutenant General Sir James Bucknall taking the salute. This year, approximately 1,400 soldiers, the King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery, and 400 musicians participated in the vibrant display of precision, discipline, and tradition.
The review was a testament to the impeccable skill of the Guards. Their synchronized footwork and seamless coordination with the musicians created an awe-inspiring display, further enhanced by the striking sight of scarlet tunics and polished brass instruments. Sir James Bucknall, riding in a dignified procession alongside the mounted cavalry, upheld the ceremonial solemnity of the occasion.
This year’s rehearsal had added significance as the Coldstream Guards, celebrating their 375th anniversary, took a central role. They are set to troop their colour before King Charles during the main event on 14 June. Notably, this rehearsal marked one of the last appearances of “George,” an aged yet reliable Irish Draught horse, beloved for years of service in such ceremonies.
Spectators were thrilled by the vibrant pageantry, which included 250 guardsmen lining The Mall, a feature extended to the main parade. With this year’s Trooping the Colour promising the King’s carriage appearance and an RAF fly-past, the full Birthday Parade is poised to deliver even greater grandeur.
If you’re planning to attend the Trooping the Colour or watch it on 14 June, expect a dazzling display of British tradition at its finest, complete with additional cavalry, royal carriages, and the iconic fly-past to crown the celebration.
