The Peacekeeping Monument, officially called Reconciliation, is a powerful tribute to Canada’s role in international peacekeeping missions. It’s located on Sussex Drive in Ottawa, near the National Gallery of Canada. The monument features three peacekeepers—two men and one woman—standing on sharp, knifelike stone edges that cut through the rubble of war. These edges converge at a high point symbolizing the peace and resolution that peacekeeping efforts strive to achieve.
Nearby, twelve oak trees form a circle representing Canada’s provinces and territories, symbolizing unity and the ongoing promise of peace. There is also a semi-circular ceremonial space designed for gatherings and remembrance events. The monument stands as a place for reflection on the sacrifices of Canadian peacekeepers and is open to the public at all times, welcoming visitors to honor those who serve in peace efforts around the world.
