The Commonwealth Air Forces Memorial, also known as the Ottawa Memorial, is situated on Green Island in Ottawa, Ontario, at 90 Sussex Drive. Overlooking the Ottawa River near the Rideau Falls, this monument commemorates nearly 800 men and women who lost their lives during the Second World War while serving or training with the Air Forces of the Commonwealth in Canada, the West Indies, and the United States, and who have no known grave.
Unveiled by Queen Elizabeth II on July 1, 1959, the memorial features a large bronze globe crowned by a bronze eagle, with the names of the fallen inscribed on curved limestone walls. The Ottawa Memorial is accessible to the public 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, allowing visitors to pay their respects at any time. The site is maintained by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission, which ensures the upkeep and preservation of the memorial .
