Takehiko Wajima, the Consul-General of Japan in Calgary, brings a wealth of experience and dedication to fostering strong ties between Japan and Canada. Born on May 29, 1964, in Tokyo, Japan, Wajima has spent his career shaping international relations and contributing to Japan’s global diplomacy. He holds a Bachelor of Law degree from Waseda University and a Master of Business Administration from Babson Graduate School, which provided him with a solid academic foundation for his future endeavors in foreign service.

Wajima’s career with Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs began in 1991. Over the years, he has held numerous key positions, including serving as Vice Consul in San Francisco, Consul in New York and Los Angeles, and as First Secretary at the Embassy of Japan in Jamaica. His experience spans diplomatic efforts in diverse regions, including his work in the Southwest Asia Division and in roles related to space and maritime security policy. These roles have allowed him to develop a deep understanding of global issues, equipping him with the expertise necessary to navigate complex international relations.

Since his appointment as Consul-General in Calgary in 2024, Wajima has been deeply engaged in strengthening diplomatic, cultural, and economic ties between Japan and the Canadian provinces of Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and the northern territories. He actively participates in cultural and business events, building connections that enrich both Japanese and Canadian communities. His leadership ensures that the Japanese community in Calgary feels supported, and he works tirelessly to promote mutual understanding between the two nations.
