Kananaskis Country Golf Course, nestled in the heart of Alberta’s Canadian Rockies, offers an exceptional golfing experience amidst breathtaking natural beauty. Located just over an hour’s drive west of Calgary, this 36-hole public facility comprises two distinct 18-hole courses: Mount Kidd and Mount Lorette.
Both courses were masterfully designed by renowned architect Robert Trent Jones Sr. and opened in 1983. They are situated at the base of their namesake peaks—Mount Kidd and Mount Lorette—providing golfers with stunning alpine vistas throughout their rounds. The courses feature lush fairways, bent grass greens, over 120 silica sand bunkers, and six sets of tee boxes, accommodating players of all skill levels. The Kananaskis River meanders through the property, adding to the serene and picturesque setting.
Mount Kidd Course, measuring 7,136 yards from the back tees, is known for its undulating terrain and strategic bunkering, offering a challenging yet rewarding experience. Mount Lorette Course stretches 7,232 yards and is characterized by its harmonious integration with the natural landscape, providing a tranquil and immersive golfing environment.
In 2013, the golf courses sustained significant damage due to severe flooding. Following extensive restoration efforts, both courses reopened in 2018, revitalized and enhanced to continue offering top-tier golfing experiences. Beyond golf, the facility boasts the Summit Restaurant, where guests can enjoy dining with panoramic mountain views. The golf season typically runs from May through mid-October, depending on weather conditions. Visitors are encouraged to book tee times in advance, especially during peak periods.
