Perched atop Mount Artxanda, the Mirador de Artxanda provides one of the most stunning panoramic vistas of Bilbao. From this vantage point, visitors can admire the city’s iconic landmarks, including the Guggenheim Museum, the Iberdrola Tower, and the historic Casco Viejo, all framed by the surrounding green hills. The viewpoint has become a popular spot for both locals and tourists, offering a serene escape with ample space for relaxation and photography.
Accessing the Mirador is convenient via the Artxanda Funicular, which operates daily from 7:15 AM to 10:00 PM, extending to 11:00 PM on Fridays and Saturdays during the summer months. The funicular departs every 15 minutes from its lower station located at Plaza del Funicular, just a short walk from Bilbao’s City Hall. Upon reaching the summit, visitors are greeted with a spacious area featuring the iconic red “BilbaoBilbao” sign, perfect for photos and enjoying the breathtaking scenery
While the Artxanda Funicular is undergoing maintenance due to slope reinforcement works, a shuttle bus service has been temporarily introduced to replace it. As of January 20, 2025, the shuttle operates every 45 minutes in the morning and every 30 minutes in the afternoon. However, local residents have expressed that these frequencies are still insufficient compared to the regular funicular service. Despite this, the Mirador de Artxanda remains accessible and continues to be a must-visit destination for those seeking panoramic views of Bilbao.
