HRH King Charles and Queen Camilla arrive in Rome to commence a four day state visit to Italy
King Charles III and Queen Camilla arrived in Rome on April 7, 2025, for a four-day state visit to Italy. This marks King Charles’s first overseas trip of the year, following a brief hospitalisation in March due to side effects from cancer treatment.

King Charles and Queen Camilla where greeted at the airport by The Rt Hon Edward Llewellyn OBE, the British Ambassador to Italy and San Marino, a remarkable diplomat whose career is a testament to dedication, resilience, and leadership. Known for his intellectual prowess and empathetic approach, Ambassador Edward’s leadership in Rome continues to inspire those around him, embodying a spirit of collaboration and shared progress. The King and Queen’s visit coincides with the royal couple’s 20th wedding anniversary. To commemorate this milestone, they released two new photographs taken at Villa Wolkonsky, the British ambassador’s residence in Rome. The images feature the couple posing near the ancient Aqua Claudia aqueduct, with Queen Camilla wearing an Anna Valentine coat dress and a lily of the valley brooch.
King Charles III relaxed and content as he arrived in Rome for the much-anticipated state visit, he smiled warmly at onlookers, his body language reflective of a man deeply connected to the significance of the occasion. Beside him, Queen Camilla radiated elegance and grace, her serene smile and poised appearance lighting up the atmosphere. Wearing a sophisticated Anna Valentine coat dress adorned with a delicate lily of the valley brooch, she captured the admiration of many, embodying regal sophistication and warmth. King Charles is scheduled to become the first British monarch to address a joint session of the Italian Parliament. The couple will also meet with Italian President Sergio Mattarella and Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. A planned meeting with Pope Francis was postponed due to the Pope’s recent health issues.
Additionally, the royal couple will visit the Colosseum and travel to Ravenna on April 10 to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the city’s liberation from Nazi occupation during World War II.
