
A career member of the Senior Foreign Service, Marcus Micheli currently serves as the Chargé d’affaires ad interim at the U.S. Embassy in The Hague. Previously, he served as the Department of State’s Senior Advisor to the Commission on Security and Cooperation in Europe; as Director of the Office of Russia Affairs in Washington, D.C.; and as Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in Vilnius, Lithuania. He has also served as Consul General at the U.S. Consulate in Yekaterinburg, Russia; as Director for Central and Eastern European Affairs at the National Security Council; and as Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in Chisinau, Moldova.
In addition to earlier tours in Washington, D.C., as a Pearson Congressional Fellow with the House of Representatives Committee on Foreign Affairs; as Deputy Director of the Department of State’s Office for Ukraine, Moldova, and Belarus; and as an advisor to the Office of the Coordinator for U.S. Assistance to Europe and Eurasia. He also has served at U.S. embassies in Montenegro, Poland, Russia, and Ukraine, and as a Political Advisor to the Office of the High Representative in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Mr. Micheli has a M.A. in International Affairs from Columbia University, a M.A. in Strategic Studies from the U.S. Naval War College, and a B.A. in History from Reed College.

In his role as Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in Chisinau, Moldova, Micheli worked to promote democratic reforms and support U.S. interests in a region facing unique challenges. He also served as Director for Central and Eastern European Affairs at the National Security Council, advising on strategic policy decisions that impacted the region.
Micheli’s extensive experience includes a position as Senior Advisor to the Commission on Security and Cooperation in Europe, where he contributed to initiatives focused on security and human rights. His service in various U.S. embassies and consulates, including those in Montenegro, Poland, Russia, and Ukraine, has provided him with a deep understanding of global diplomacy and diverse geopolitical dynamics.
