Nordnorsk Kunstmuseum is a stronghold for art in Northern Norway, with international ambitions and perspectives.

Nordnorsk Kunstmuseum presents art in a northern perspective from the 19th century till today. The museum’s collection consists of over two thousand works of art, and an ever-changing exhibition from the collection is presented on the second and third level. Exhibited works range from the Romantic period to contemporary art, showing works in a large variety of artforms.

The museum’s ground floor regularly displays current, temporary exhibitions that provide enriching art experiences. The museum emphasizes art that addresses themes relevant to the northern regions, such as climate change, subsistence, community life and indigenous issues.

Essential artists you can see in the museum are Peder Balke, Anna-Eva Bergman, David Hockney, Marit Følstad, Christian Krohg, Edvard Munch, Adolph Tidemand and Harriet Backer.
