Aleksander Miszalski, born on August 7, 1980, in Kraków, Poland, is a prominent politician affiliated with the Civic Platform party. He has been serving as the Mayor of Kraków since May 7, 2024, succeeding Jacek Majchrowski.
Miszalski’s educational background is extensive and rooted in his hometown. He holds three master’s degrees from Kraków’s leading universities: International Relations from the University of Economics, Sociology from the Jagiellonian University, and Tourism and Recreation from the Academy of Physical Education. In 2024, he earned a Ph.D. from the University of Economics in Kraków, focusing his dissertation on the behaviors of tourists utilizing hostel services in the city.
His political career began in 2009 when he joined the Civic Platform. By 2010, he was elected to the Kraków City Council, serving until 2018. During this period, he also held leadership positions within the party, becoming the chairman of the Kraków branch in 2016 and later the Małopolska regional branch in 2017.
In 2019, Miszalski transitioned to national politics, securing a seat in the Sejm, Poland’s lower house of Parliament, representing the Civic Coalition. He served as a Member of Parliament until April 2024.
Returning to local governance, Miszalski ran for the mayoralty of Kraków in 2024. He won the election in the second round, officially taking office on May 7, 2024. His tenure as mayor has been marked by efforts to strengthen international relations, as evidenced by his meeting with the Israeli Ambassador to Poland, Dr. Yacov Livne, on November 15, 2024.
