Aquarium, Vladivostok, Primorskiy kray, Russia
The oceanarium is a marine museum, which includes live and dry expositions, which are dedicated to the nature of the Pacific Ocean, tropical seas, rivers and lakes of the Far East, the Amazon and Africa.
Expositions of the Oceanarium are located in three halls, with a total area of more than 1500 square meters. The aquarium contains about 120 species of hydrobionts (more than 2,000 copies). The museum collection consists of more than 1000 exhibits.
To create the Oceanarium in 1987, a creative group was organized, whose work was implemented in this project. The oceanarium was built in 1990 according to the project of the institute “Primorgrazhdanproekt” under the guidance of architect A.V. Altai and with the participation of experts from the Department of Architecture of FEPI. The technical equipment is supplied and assembled by the company “NITIRO Corporation” (Japan). Its first visitors to the Oceanarium took on the Fisherman’s Day on July 12, 1991.
In 1999, by the decision of the Head of Administration of Vladivostok, for the conduct of economic and commercial activities of the Oceanarium, the Municipal Unitary Enterprise “Aquamir” was established. The result of his activity is an attractive view of the building of the Oceanarium, improvement of the adjacent territory, constant updating of the exposition. Also MUP “Akvamir” conducts painstaking work to collect material and expand the collection.
In 2000 MUP “Akvamir” became a member of the Euro-Asian Regional Association of Zoos and Oceanariums.
In February – March 2002, the exposition was reconstructed. A new live exposition with inhabitants of tropical reservoirs has been created.
In May 2010, the facade of the building was renewed, as a result of which the Vladivostok Oceanarium became one of the most beautiful sights of Vladivostok.
In January 2011, the building of the oceanarium acquired a more modern and aesthetic appearance. The works were carried out within the framework of the project of preparation of the city for the APEC summit “Marine Facade”.
