Embankment of Stepan Razin, Tver, Tver Oblast, Russia 

Stepan Razin Embankment is situated on the right bank of the Volga, it got its name in honor of Don Cossack Stepan Razin, but until 1923 was called a very simple and logical – embankment of the Volga River.

Stepan Razin Embankment began to be built stone houses in the middle of the 1760s when the city redevelopment after a fire in 1763. The construction of houses was carried out close to each other, that is, on the principle of “single fronts” (which is widespread in the northern capital of Russia) for project Peter Nikitin. But against such a construction fell Tver merchant, which was not ready to break the habitual way of life. They were more accustomed to, when each city estate was isolated from the neighboring and gaps existed between the houses of the street.

As a result of the continuous development of the city refused, but Stepan Razin embankment (though not throughout its length) the principle of “single fronts” was pretending to be in life. Six stone two-storey house (built in the 18th century), who survived almost unchanged.
