The Earthshot Prize

The Earthshot Prize stands as a beacon of hope and action in the face of one of humanity’s greatest challenges—protecting and restoring our planet. Launched by Prince William in 2020, this prestigious global environmental prize seeks to inspire and empower solutions that will heal the Earth over the next decade. Drawing inspiration from President John F. Kennedy’s ambitious Moonshot initiative, the Earthshot Prize awards five groundbreaking innovations each year across critical areas like climate, nature, oceans, waste, and air quality. With its bold vision and commitment to optimism, the Earthshot Prize unites communities, businesses, and governments, igniting a collective determination to create a sustainable future. It is not just a prize; it is a movement for change, driven by the belief that the power to transform our world lies within each of us.

The Environment

Protecting the natural environment for future generations is one of The Prince of Wales’s key priorities. His Royal Highness is Patron of a number of charities which are focused on conservation and through The Royal Foundation of The Prince and Princess of Wales, he has spearheaded global initiatives to protect our natural world.

Most recently, in 2020, His Royal Highness launched The Earthshot Prize – a global environmental prize and platform to discover, award, celebrate and scale ground-breaking solutions to repair and regenerate the planet every year until 2030. The Prize comprises five Earthshot challenges which will have the greatest impact on the biggest environmental challenges facing our planet. The first awards ceremony took place in London in October 2021, with subsequent ceremonies in Boston (2022) and Singapore (2023).

United for Wildlife

When he was The Duke of Cambridge, Prince William founded United for Wildlife with The Royal Foundation in 2014 to promote collaborative work across the transport and finance sectors to make it impossible for traffickers to transport, finance or profit from illegal wildlife products.

Royal Patron of BAFTA

His Royal Highness Prince William, The Prince of Wales, serves with distinction as Patron of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts, championing the very best of British and international filmmaking. In this esteemed role, HRH The Prince of Wales honours the enduring legacy of cinematic excellence while actively supporting the next generation of storytellers, innovators, and creative leaders. Through his patronage of the BAFTA Film Awards, he affirms the profound cultural power of film to inspire minds, strengthen communities, and project Britain’s creative spirit confidently onto the world stage.

Royal Patron of Tusk

Prince William, The Prince of Wales, has been the Royal Patron of Tusk Trust since 2005. Tusk is a UK-based charity dedicated to wildlife conservation, community development, and environmental education in Africa. His role as patron underscores his commitment to protecting endangered species, supporting community-based conservation projects, and raising awareness of environmental challenges. Prince William actively supports Tusk’s initiatives, including the annual Tusk Conservation Awards, which celebrate extraordinary achievements in African conservation. His involvement has helped amplify the organization’s impact, bringing global attention to the critical issues faced by Africa’s wildlife and ecosystems

Royal Patron of Homewards

The Prince of Wales is a passionate advocate for the homeless and those at risk of homelessness. In June 2023, The Prince and The Royal Foundation launched Homewards, a five-year, locally led programme that will aim to demonstrate that together it’s possible to end homelessness – making it rare, brief and unrepeated. The programme will take a transformative approach to the issue of homelessness and put collaboration at its heart, giving its six flagship locations new space, tools, and relationships to showcase what can be achieved through a collective effort focused on preventing and ending homelessness in their areas.

His Royal Highness has championed homelessness causes for a number of years. His first patronage was Centrepoint, the UK’s leading youth homelessness charity, and he has used his platform to highlight individual’s stories and encourage collaboration to tackle this solvable issue. He is also Patron of The Passage, which works to prevent homelessness and aims to transform the lives of those who have experienced homelessness.

Homewards aims to give people across the UK hope that homelessness can be prevented by showing them the progress we can make when we collaborate. It’s a big task, but I firmly believe that by working together it is possible to make homelessness rare, brief and unrepeated, and I am very much looking forward to working with our six locations to make our ambition a reality

Mental Health

In October 2023 The Prince and Princess of Wales together with The Royal Foundation and in partnership with The Mix and with the support of BBC Radio 1, hosted a forum for young people called Exploring our Emotional Worlds. The event brought together 100 young delegates nominated by ten leading mental health and youth engagement charities to start a conversation about how they manage their emotions and how they can be supported to build their resilience and protective factors such as healthy relationships which make it easier to navigate bumps in the road as they go through life.

Royal Patron the FA

His Royal Highness, The Prince of Wales,  Patron of the FA. The patronage was previously held by Queen Elizabeth II and, following her passing, the Royal Household has undertaken a major review of Royal Patronages and charity Presidencies. His Royal Highness, The Prince of Wales, has held the position of President at the FA since 2006, and a member of the Royal Family has provided additional support to the organisation’s Patron in this role since 1939. Given the active role within the FA of His Royal Highness, The Prince of Wales, the position of President will not be filled at this time.

His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales, Leading football’s spirit, inspiring inclusion, championing the national game. plays a truly inspiring role as the Patron of The Football Association (FA), a position he took over from his late grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, in 2024. Having previously served as President of the FA since 2006, his deep-rooted passion for football, evident in his lifelong support for Aston Villa, makes him an authentic and impactful figurehead. In this esteemed role, Prince William provides crucial royal endorsement and visibility for the FA’s efforts across all levels of the game, from the professional elite to vital grassroots initiatives, helping to elevate football’s profile and promote its positive values within society.

His involvement goes beyond mere patronage; The Prince actively champions key FA initiatives, notably spearheading campaigns like “Heads Up,” which harnessed the immense popularity of football to raise vital awareness for mental health. He consistently attends significant matches, including FA Cup Finals and major international tournaments for both the men’s and women’s national teams, demonstrating his unwavering support and celebrating the achievements of English football. His presence at such events, including his recent confirmation to attend the UEFA Women’s EURO 2025 Final, sends a powerful message of recognition and validation to players and fans alike, particularly boosting the growing profile of the women’s game.

Through his active participation, speeches, and public engagements, HRH The Prince of Wales uses his platform to inspire participation, promote inclusivity, and advocate for the positive impact of sport on health, well-being, and community cohesion. His leadership helps to unite fans and stakeholders behind the national game, ensuring that football continues to be a force for good across the country.
