Home-style German food & apple wine in rustic, wood-lined interiors or a shady garden. Cider tavern in the heart of Frankfurt’s Sachsenhausen! The Eichkatzerl is one of the oldest cider taverns in Sachsenhausen. First mentioned in the press in 1880, the establishment was originally operated as a Heckenwirtschaft. Unfortunately, the exact year of its founding is no longer ascertainable. The name “Zum Eichkatzerl” likely derives from the squirrels inhabiting the trees of the summer garden.
The paintings by Hans Schneider and the wooden furnishings imbue the Eichkatzerl with the same cider tavern charm then as it does now. The cuisine is hearty and traditional, offering not only a standard menu but also a daily and monthly menu adapted to the respective season. The tavern boasts 80 seats in the old dining room, 60 seats in the enclosed side room, and 120 seats in the summer garden. The garden is open until midnight.
