Nevin Truesdale

Nevin Truesdale is a visionary leader whose legacy in British horseracing is defined by resilience, transformation, and heartfelt dedication to the sport. With a strong background in finance and business leadership—having previously held senior roles at Centrica and British Gas—he brought his expertise to The Jockey Club in 2013 as Group Finance Director. His analytical precision and forward-thinking approach quickly distinguished him, preparing the ground for even greater responsibilities ahead.

In 2020, amid the challenges of the global pandemic, Truesdale stepped in as Acting Chief Executive of The Jockey Club at a time when the sport needed calm, courage, and clarity. He led with both conviction and compassion, and in recognition of his remarkable stewardship, was appointed Group Chief Executive in January 2021. His tenure was marked by transformational reforms, including a major internal restructure and bold strategies to ensure the long-term sustainability and accessibility of horseracing across the UK.

But beyond balance sheets and business models, Nevin Truesdale’s true gift was his unwavering belief in the power of racing to unite, inspire, and uplift. He worked to modernize the sport while protecting its heritage, always with a profound respect for its community—from jockeys to racegoers, from horses to the stable hands behind the scenes.

Announcing his decision to step down in 2024, Truesdale reflected on his journey with humility and pride, calling it “a true privilege” to serve an institution so steeped in tradition yet brimming with future promise.

Leadership is not about titles or hierarchy—it’s about standing tall in difficult times, inspiring those around you, and leaving things better than you found them.” — Nevin Truesdale
