Port Stanley Airport

Port Stanley Airport is a STOL port in the Falkland Islands, two miles outside the capital, Stanley. The airport is the only civil-operated airport in the islands with a paved runway. The airport is operated by the Government of the Falkland Islands, and is only used for internal flights between the Islands. International flights use Mount Pleasant Airport which is operated by the Royal Air Force.

Port Stanley Airport, officially known as RAF Mount Pleasant, is the main airport serving the Falkland Islands. Located approximately 35 miles (56 kilometers) southwest of the capital city, Stanley, on East Falkland Island. It is situated on the eastern side of Mount Pleasant, a prominent feature in the landscape. Originally constructed as a military airfield during the Falklands War in 1982, Port Stanley Airport was later expanded and developed into a dual-use facility for civilian and military purposes. It serves as the primary gateway for visitors traveling to and from the Falkland Islands.

Port Stanley Airport features a single asphalt runway, designated 10/28, which is approximately 2,198 meters (7,211 feet) in length. The airport has a terminal building equipped with facilities for passenger check-in, security screening, baggage handling, and customs and immigration procedures.The airport is served by several airlines offering flights to destinations such as the United Kingdom, Chile, and other locations in South America. Flights are typically operated by aircraft capable of long-haul travel, such as Airbus A330 or Boeing 777 aircraft.

In addition to civilian operations, Port Stanley Airport maintains a significant military presence, with facilities for the Royal Air Force (RAF) and British Forces South Atlantic Islands (BFSAI). The airport serves as a strategic hub for military logistics and support operations in the region.Port Stanley Airport is accessible by road from Stanley and other parts of East Falkland Island. Additionally, shuttle services and taxis are available to transport passengers between the airport and the capital city.
