The Puy de Dome at 1465 meters above sea level offers a unique lookout point on the Chaîne des Puys , the most beautiful European volcanic ensemble.
At the heart of the volcanoes of Auvergne, the puy de Dôme GRAND SITE OF FRANCE, said the Giant of Domes is a tourist site protected and arranged. A place of adventure and a space steeped in history, the site attracts more than 550,000 visitors each year. It is a fragile natural area that must be preserved.
Many sporting exploits took place on the site. Everyone remembers the climb to the top of the Puy de Dome runners of the Tour de France . It is also a site always occupied by scientists for advanced research on the composition of the atmosphere. The story goes back to Blaise Pascal’s experiment on the measurement of atmospheric pressure.
