Turtle Village Trust

Turtle Village Trust is a unique, non-profit, umbrella body that uses strategic partnerships to coordinate, facilitate and implement knowledge-based sea turtle conservation efforts in Trinidad and Tobago for the development and empowerment of coastal communities. Five species of sea turtles have been sighted in Trinidad and Tobago – Leatherbacks, Hawksbills, Greens, Loggerheads and Olive Ridleys. HP Trinidad and Tobago is the founding private sector sponsor of Turtle Village Trust.

The main nesting season for local sea turtles runs from March to September of each year. Three of the main nesting beaches – Matura, Fishing Pond and Grande Rivière – are Prohibited Areas and permission is required for the purpose of turtle viewing. Only a limited number of permits are distributed daily, so you need to ensure that you apply early.

Applications for Turtle Watching Permits can be obtained at the following Forestry Division offices, between the hours of 9:00 am and 2:00 pm, Monday to Friday (except on public holidays).
