Serene botanical gardens are popular for picnics & photography, with hiking trails & diverse trees. The responsibilities of the Royal Botanic Gardens Unit include the following which are reflected in the Recurrent Estimates 2011/2012.
Educational and training programmes including tours of the Royal Botanic Gardens, plant interpretation, exhibitions, production of literature, training sessions, lectures and the procession of requests for information. Facilitation of visitors’ service and special events in the Botanic Gardens.
Curation and maintenance of the Botanic Gardens including lawn maintenance, raking, sweeping of roadways, garbage collection, edging, pest and disease control, fertilizer application, irrigation, maintenance of signs, picnic areas, public toilets and other physical facilities and the establishment of new plants.
Production of floral displays for managing the indoor/outdoor aesthetics of state functions, state compounds and selected high-profile residences, e.g. Prime Minister’s Residence and President’s House.
