The Ariège collection of the Grands Sites Midi Pyrenees can boast of having one of the few ornate grottos still open to the public. Niaux has a hundred animal representations in a gallery located 800 meters from the entrance: ‘the black salon’.
The cave of Niaux is known for the quality of its Magdalenian paintings , representations executed more than 14 000 years ago.
At the entrance of the cave an erected sculpture surprises, questions and invites the visitor to forget his world and to prepare for a trip to the origins of Art.
