A small museum on Ancient Greek technology, with reconstructed, interactive machines & guided tours. The Kotsanas Museum of Ancient Greek Technology is a museum focused on the technology and technological advances used and pioneered in Ancient Greece situated in Katakolo It has three permanent annexes (in Athens 6 Pindarou Str. and Akadimias), Ancient Olympia (9 Praxiteli Kondyli Str.) and at Katakolon port (paternal home of Giannis Latsis), and has travelling exhibitions.
The unsurpassed contribution of the ancient Greeks in the fields of Philosophy and Fine Arts is well known and is not disputed by anyone. Equally well known is their contribution to the field of ancient Sciences. But the Technology of the ancient Greeks is relatively unknown as well as their incredible achievements in this field. The exhibition of the museum of ancient Greek technology brings back to life about 300 extraordinary inventions of the ancient Greek technological wonder (from Philo’s robot-maid to Heron’s cinema and from Ctesibius’ automatic clock to the analog computer of Antikythera) covering the period from 2000 e.g. until the end of the ancient Greek world after 25 years of research and study by Kostas Kotsanas. It is the most valid (since it is based exclusively on the thorough study of the ancient Greek, Latin and Arabic script, the angiographic information and the minimal relevant archaeological finds) and the most complete exhibition of its kind worldwide. All the exhibits and their supporting material have been created by him without any grant from any public or private body. The museum is located on the eastern side of the central square of Katakolo, opposite the railway station and operates under the auspices of the Municipality of Pyrgos.
