Parque Nacional de Sete Cidades, Piracuruca, State of Piauí, Brazil
Located in the northeast of the state of Piauí, in the municipalities of Piracuruca and Brasileira (officially in Piracuruca), the Sete Cidades National Park has an area of 6,221.48 ha with a perimeter of 36 km.The park was created with the objective of preserving natural ecosystems of great ecological and scenic beauty, enabling scientific research and the development of educational activities, environmental interpretation, ecological tourism and recreation in contact with nature.
Most of the flora found in the park is typical of cerrado, with species such as murici, cascudo, trashcan, bacuri, pequi and palo-terra, easily sighted. In the caatinga spots are jujubes, juremas, aroeiras and cacti, as the xique-xique and the crown of the monk.
There are forest patches along the course of rivers and springs, where the pau-d’arco and embaúba are common. In these areas grow nymphs, aquatic plants that live in the mirrors of the water of the pools and natural lakes and that give a special touch to the landscape.
