Parque Nacional dos Lençóis Maranhenses, State of Maranhao, Brazil
The National Park of Lençóis Maranhenses was created in June 1981. Its area is 155 thousand hectares, of which 90 thousand are made up of free dunes and interdunary lagoons, and it covers three municipalities in Maranhão: Barreirinhas, Santo Amaro and First Cross .
The park is inserted in the Cerrado biome and is composed of restinga areas, free dune fields and ocean coast. The unit boasts great scenic beauty, being visited year-round by tourists from all over the world.
