Anavilhanas National Parkas, Novo Airão, State of Amazonas, Brazil
One of the largest river archipelagos in the world is located in Rio Negro, 100 km away from Manaus, near the municipality of Novo Airão: Anavilhanas. Around 400 islands form a natural maze and one of the most beautiful examples of Amazon’s natural landscapes.
The Anavilhanas National Park was created to preserve the archipelago, which is listed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, in order to protect the Amazon ecosystem through environmental education and sustainable tourism initiatives.
In addition to enjoying the Amazon fauna and flora and meeting traditional riverside communities, visitors can also go to the Flutuante dos Botos [Dolphin Float], in the coastline of Novo Airão, where they can swim and interact with the pink river dolphins – beautiful water mammals of the region.
